Additional information and Frequently Asked Questions for the UVic BYOD Service:

 

Why do I need to use this portal?

Non-UVic wireless broadcasting devices (wifi routers) add interference to the wireless spectrum, greatly affecting performance and speeds for all other wireless services.

Rogue wireless devices affect all other users around the rogue AP and are not permitted on campus.


How do I use the self-registration portal?

You need the MAC address from the device you wish to connect. (Click here for assistance).

Once you have the device MAC address, do the following:


  • Log into https://studentbyod.wifi.uvic.ca
  • Accept terms and conditions
  • Click Add on main page
  • Enter the Device Name and MAC address of your device
  • Click Submit
  • Once the device appears in the list of devices, you may Sign Out via the top-right dropdown menu.

 

To delete a device:

In the portal Manage Devices page, click the check box to the left of the device MAC address. Click the Delete button.

 

Device Status:

It may say "Pending", please disregard.

 

My device won't connect!

Confirm the MAC address entered in the portal matches the MAC address of your device. The MAC entered must match or it will never connect.

 

How many devices can I register?

3 at one time. You can delete them and re-add as necessary.
