Researchers

Katelin Albert

Katelin Albert is a medical and health sociologist. Her research interests include:

  • vaccination politics
  • health behaviours and health decision making
  • sexual health and sex education
  • gendered health technologies (such as the HPV vaccine)

Katelin analyzes how people make personal health and safety choices. She studies how parents see responsibility for their children’s health and sexuality. She also looks at gendered norms in health practices and decision-making.

She recently investigated BC residents’ COVID-19 vaccination attitudes and health behaviours. She explored how people used public and health data during the pandemic.

Aaron Devor

Aaron Devor initiated and holds the inaugural position as the world’s only Research Chair in Transgender Studies. His research focuses on Trans+ people including their physical, spiritual, and mental health.

Aaron has been involved with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) since 1992. He was as author of versions 6 (2002), 7 (2012), and 8 (2022) of the WPATH Standards of Care for the Health of Transsexual, Transgender and Gender Nonconforming People. He has also worked on projects concerning the handling of sex and gender information in electronic health records, the provision of blood services to Trans+ people, gender transitioning and retransitioning, and he has co-edited a volume on Trans+ elders.

Garry C. Gray

Garry C. Gray was formerly a research fellow in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. There he researched the effect of organizational culture on medical errors. He also studied its impact on ethical decision-making inside hospitals. 

Garry’s research interests include:

  • criminology
  • institutional corruption, regulation and compliance
  • behavioural ethics
  • organizational culture
  • health and safety

André Smith

André Smith studies aging, dementia and mental health. He also studies health policy, ethnicity and blood donation.

Andre’s research program aims to understand the intersectionality of health and health-related behaviour and their wider socio-cultural, institutional and familial dimensions.
