About

The UVic Wind Symphony is recognized as one of the premier wind ensembles in the Pacific Northwest. Our  performances feature contemporary repertoire celebrating emerging and established composers and artists as well as traditional and classic works from the broader wind repertory. Supporting and investing in new music for the wind ensemble genre, we are committed to advancing Canadian representation and performing works from diverse and underrepresented composers at every concert. Annually, the Wind Symphony premieres several works by UVic School of Music students and other composers alongside transcriptions of orchestral works, concerti and solo repertoire, large symphonic works, and music from jazz, popular, and mainstream idioms, often working with voices, small ensembles, and other groups.

Rehearsing and performing in The Farquhar at UVic, the UVic Wind Symphony regularly features student, faculty, and guest solo artists, including winners of the annual UVic Concerto Competition. For more than 10 years we have collaborated in sold-out concerts with the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy in exhilarating performances receiving popular and critical acclaim. The UVic Wind Symphony has gone on tour on Vancouver Island, to the Okanagan, and the United States, as well as producing CDs and other recordings that have been used for our vibrant and energetic style.
