About

Baroque Collegium provides undergraduate and graduate students with an opportunity to approach aspects of historical repertory and performance practice in a practical setting. The full-year course includes weekly rehearsals and coaching by specialists in historically informed performance, student performances, as well as tickets to early music concerts in the region.

With the generous support of Early Music Vancouver, the Collegium is now a part of BOMP (Baroque Orchestra Mentoring Programme). The ensemble has been working side by side with mentors Chloe Meyers (concert master of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra) and Professor Joanna Hood. Other mentors have included baroque cellist Christine Mahler, viola da gamba specialist Martin Bonham, baroque flutist Soile Stratkauskas (artistic director of the Victoria Baroque Players) and harpsichordist Aleander Weimann (conductor of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra Vancouver and Artistic Director of the Seattle Baroque Orchestra).

The group performs on period instruments—including reproductions or modern instruments with a baroque setup—baroque violins and bows, violas and cellos, harpsichord, baroque flute, and viola da gamba. Some of the instruments are provided on loan from The University of British Columbia through Early Music Vancouver.
