Courses

There are two broad types of sociology courses at UVic. Courses that are required within the major, minor and general programs provide a systematic grounding in the theoretical and methodological core of sociology as a social science. Other courses serve as electives, both for sociology students and for students in other programs. These electives range quite broadly across diverse social issues, including:

Racialization, decolonization, and Indigenous resurgence
Gender and sexuality
Social inequality and social control
Law and social justice
Canadian society and globalization
Food and ecology
Self and identity
Work and technology
Health and aging
Social problems and deviance
Media and popular culture
Ecology and development
Social movements and politics
