Science Venture

Students in kindergarten through grade 12 can learn from the UVic community through school visits, fieldtrips to see our facilities and annual events hosted on campus. 

In addition to the activities listed below, there are also community activities.

Astronomy open house and events

The Department of Physics and Astronomy host weekly Astronomy open houses on Wednesday evenings. These events, open to all, give you a chance to discover everything you've wanted to know about the sky!

In addition to the regular Wednesday night open houses, they also invite groups of 20 to visit our dome facility for daytime tours.

Let's Talk Science

Let's Talk Science provides science outreach to schools, and hosts several activities on campus each year. Programs are free and cover a broad range of dynamic self-directed science and social science activities. Contact uvic@outreach.letstalkscience.ca for information.

Math Mania

Math Mania an evening of fun hands-on activities for learning math and computer science geared towards elementary school children.

Science Venture

Science Venture offers in-school & campus workshops, clubs, camps, and events for youth across Vancouver Island in Kindergarten to Grade 9. Teacher professional development in the areas of inquiry based science, digital literacy, and computational thinking are also offered. Programs are delivered by UVic students enrolled in STEM disciplines.

Scientists and Innovators in the Schools

Scientists and Innovators in the Schools gives our chemistry faculty, staff and students a chance to visit classrooms around BC. Each student is able to perform a chemistry experiment appropriate for their age.

Speakers Bureau

The UVic Speakers Bureau is a community service provided by volunteer speakers from among the faculty, staff, graduate students and retirees who teach, conduct research, study and work at the University of Victoria.

Through the bureau, experts and knowledgeable individuals from UVic make themselves available to speak to community groups, schools, clubs and other organizations throughout Greater Victoria and southern Vancouver Island.

Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair

  • The Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair is held at UVic in early April each year. Any student who is between the ages of 9 and 18 and lives on Vancouver Island is welcome to submit a project to the Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair.
