PhD programs

PhD programs are offered by special arrangement. Please contact Dr. Rhodes if you are interested in pursuing a PhD to discuss how your program should be set up.

Funding

Prospective students should contact Dr. Rhodes to inquire about funding he might have available for you out of his grant accounts. Some important Government of Canada funding agencies are also listed below. These government awards are prestigious and an important contribution to your curriculum vitae. Dr. Rhodes expects you to apply for these. If nothing else, the experience will give you knowledge about the evaluation criteria for such awards.

• Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council doctoral fellowships ($17,700 per year)
  UVic has to send student applications to SSHRC by November 15, but they set an internal deadline for student submission. Please check with the department.
• Canadian Institute of Health Research doctoral research awards ($20,000 per year) 
  October 15 deadline (please check with the department for internal deadlines)

• Michael Smith Foundation Research Trainee Program - Master's or Doctoral ($20,000 per year) 
  November 15 deadline please check with the department for internal deadlines)
  Students can apply for awards at the doctoral level, while still enrolled in a Master's program.
