X-rays

The x-ray safety program protects staff and students who work in and around x-ray equipment from exposure to radiation.  

The program outlines policies and procedures regarding the purchasing of x-ray equipment, facility requirements, training, exposure monitoring, laboratory security, and equipment inspections. Please refer to the X-Ray Equipment Safety Manual for detailed information on these and other topics.

Registration of x-ray equipment

All equipment at the University of Victoria that is capable of producing x-rays must be registered with the Department of Occupational Health, Safety & Environment. To register equipment, please contact Troy Hasanen at hasanent@uvic.ca

The following individuals must enrol in the X-Ray Safety course:

  • Any individual working with the x-ray equipment
  • Equipment owners and supervisors

The following individuals should enrol:   

  • Students or staff working in the lab but not using the equipment
