Funding

Our department offers competitive funding for our graduate students. We have an excellent record of helping students obtain SSHRC MA fellowships and funding from other external sources. In addition, we offer university and department scholarships, teaching assistantships, and research assistantships.

Secure funding for graduate students includes:

  1. University of Victoria Fellowships - valued at $10,000–15,000 per annum. May be renewed once. All renewals are dependent upon the student maintaining the minimum GPA of 7.0 or First Class standing for international students on the last two years of study.   2. UVic Graduate Awards - valued at $1,000-10,000 per annum in accordance with the following GPA requirements: minimum GPA of 6.5 may offered a Graduate Award valued between $1,000–5,000 per annum to be assigned in increments of $500. A minimum GPA of 7.0 or higher may be offered a Graduate Award valued between $5,000–10,000. No limits on renewals, but students must maintain the minimum award requirements. New and returning full or part-time registered grad students are eligible for UVic Graduate Awards. For more information go to:  Faculty of Graduate Studies.
  3. Several department graduate donor awards may be available.
  4. Many teaching assistantships and language laboratory assistantships are available.
