Brian Garvin

As a Child Protection Social Worker for the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development, Brian works on the Family Services team providing long-term support, supervision, and interventions for Ministry involved families.

My education at UVic helped shape my practice as a Family Service worker through giving me strengths based and trauma informed approaches to being in a position of authority. The anti-oppressive perspective of my education has made me aware of power dynamics in my role and allowed me to navigate them with tact as I work to create safety for children in a collaborative and relational way with the families.
