Are you passionate about health care? Take your first step towards a fulfilling career in nursing!

Using a shared curriculum, the University of Victoria offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in partnership with:

In Victoria, you'll attend Camosun College for the first 5 semesters of the program, and transfer to the UVic campus in the sixth semester.

In Yellowknife, Cranbrook and Castlegar, you'll complete the BSN through full-time, on-campus study in your local community.

Whether you transfer to UVic or complete your studies at our partner schools, you will receive a UVic BSN degree when you complete the program.

Program objectives

The BSN program provides a solid base for all aspects of patient care. You'll gain the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as a registered nurse and find opportunities to create change in your field.

Specifically, graduates will:

  • promote health and well-being by providing quality nursing care in different contexts and with diverse populations
  • be accountable practitioners who provide care and make decisions based on relationships with others, nursing knowledge and different ways of knowing
  • demonstrate leadership that influences registered nursing practice and health care at professional, social, environmental, economic and political levels by anticipating and responding to the changing needs of society
  • engage in intentional critical inquiry and self-reflection to support life-long learning
  • contribute their knowledge and voice to interprofessional and team-based collaborations to improve health outcomes and strengthen health services and systems
  • understand the historical and current social realities that result in Indigenous-specific racism, and which negatively impact Indigenous health and well-being

How to apply

Apply to year 1 of the BSN

The college partner sites determine the admissibility of students into the college portion of the program. For questions regarding admission to year 1 please contact the partner schools directly. 

Apply to the final semesters of the BSN after completing the college portion

This application process is specific to students who are presently completing the college portion of the BSN program and are now applying to the final semesters as a UVic student.

To apply to UVic for your final semesters in the BSN program, follow the steps outlined in the application information session arranged through your college site.

You can use our tuition calculator to estimate how much your tuition and student fees will cost. Students only pay UVic tuition for semesters 6–8.

Frequently asked questions

No. We do not offer the relevant courses in semesters 1 to 5; these are only offered at college partner sites.

You must complete all courses in semesters 1 through 5, and the 2 consolidated practice experiences, with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) equivalent to 3.0 on the UVic 9.0-point scale.

Please note that college and UVic GPAs may not be equivalent. We include repeated and failed courses in the GPA calculation for all required courses including English, Biology and electives.

A minimum grade of C (60–64 per cent) is required in all courses. If you receive a grade below C in any course in semesters 1 through 5, you must successfully repeat that course before acceptance to UVic. If you fail a nursing practice course in semesters 1 through 5, you will be placed on probation for the duration of your program at UVic.

You may only repeat a failed nursing practice course once in the program (years 1 to 4). Admission to the BSN program is provisional pending receipt of an official transcript indicating satisfactory completion of semester 5.

You must complete 1 or 2 non-nursing electives depending on the college attending to be considered for admission to the UVic portion of the BSN program. These may be 100- to 400-level courses that are transferable to UVic.

No. Admission is restricted to students from our college partner sites who meet the requirements for transfer to UVic.

Seats on campus at UVic are reserved for students transferring from Camosun College. If a seat is available, students from other college partner sites can request to transfer in term 6.

Please note that we do not offer an accelerated BSN program.

If you have a degree from an accredited post-secondary institution, you may have the third non-nursing elective waived and the academic writing requirement satisfied. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis after you’ve applied to UVic.

No, we do not currently offer a post-baccalaureate BSN program.
