Centres & collaborations
Integration and collaboration are core to what we do at Gustavson. In addition to the informal collaborations used by faculty, staff and students every day, Gustavson has a dedicated, intra-faculty centre (the Centre for Social and Sustainable Innovation), which advances Gustavson’s sustainability efforts. We also house several groups that are run in collaboration with other partners on- and off-campus.
Centre for Social and Sustainable Innovation (CSSI)
Since its founding in 2011, CSSI has catalyzed cutting-edge multi-disciplinary research, inspired our students to become change agents in their organizations and communities, and cultivated a strong sustainability ethos within the Gustavson School of Business and beyond.
Vision: To be the leading business school research centre for regenerative sustainability that inspires and enables organizations to transform economies, strengthen communities and revitalize ecosystems. CSSI focuses on 4 priorities:
- research: promote research that advances regenerative sustainability
- education: catalyze teaching and learning on regenerative sustainability
- community: collaborate with partners for a sustainable and inclusive community
- culture: cultivate a culture that honours people, place and planet
Our collaborative initiatives include:
National Consortium for Indigenous Economic Development (NCIED)
NCIED is an initiative of Gustavson and UVic Faculty of Law. NCIED focuses on independent and collaborative research, building capacity for economic development in Indigenous Nations and creating partnerships for action.
Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives (CAPI)
CAPI is a research centre at UVic focused on bringing scholars together in the Asia-Pacific region through conferences, events and research projects. Since its inception in 1988, CAPI acts as a vital link between UVic and the Asia–Pacific region, providing opportunities and initiatives that bring scholars and others together.
The CAPI Jarislowsky East-Asia Japan Chair, housed at Gustavson, helps to better prepare students to do business in Asia.
Impact Investing Hub
The UVic Impact Investing Hub is a research and education hub at the intersection of climate action and impact investing and finance. Their mission is to create new knowledge and provide useful insights to help align investments with the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The hub brings together experts from academia, the community and government to find innovative ways to accelerate the transition toward a climate-positive and inclusive economy.
Gustavson Research Circle
The Gustavson Research Circle gives our junior faculty and PhD students access to leading researchers in their fields, and offers our faculty access to empirical sites of interest globally.
This initiative encourages reciprocal intellectual engagement between Gustavson faculty and elite business schools who share our strategic research priorities. To date, we have established formal research partnerships with the following business schools:
- Grossman School of Business, University of Vermont, USA
- IAE Business School, Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, India
- University of Auckland Business School, Auckland, New Zealand
