Indigenous Cultural Acumen Training
The Indigenous Cultural Acumen Training (ICAT) is intended to support the ongoing work of making UVic a better place for Indigenous students and community members, and, by extension, for all students, faculty and staff. Building on work done at the university over the past two decades, it also comprises a response to the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Final Report, University Canada's Principles on Indigenous Education, and President Cassel's Update on the TRC Report (October 2015).
ICAT Foundation Module
The first module of the Indigenous Cultural Acumen Training (ICAT) is designed to offer foundational information about the colonial context (historical and current) of Indigenous people in Canada to all members of the university community (students, student leaders, staff, faculty, and executive). It is delivered as 2-hour, face-to-face presentation and discussion, along with a Brightspace page with pre- and post-workshop resources and activities, and it serves as the basis for future modules being developed in response to needs identified by participants.
Due to capacity constraints, we are unable to offer sessions to groups of fewer than 25 people. If you are looking for a session for a smaller group, please connect with other groups in your area/unit/department who might be looking for a session or check for an open session in the Learning Central calendar (for faculty and staff only).
To arrange an ICAT Foundation Module session for your team or unit, please contact the ICAT team.
