The Indigenous Student Mini-University Summer Camp
The Indigenous Student Mini-University Summer Camp, hosted by the Office of Indigenous Academic and Community Engagement (IACE) at the University of Victoria (UVic) is a transformative initiative designed specifically for Indigenous students in Grades 9 to 12 who reside in BC, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. This week-long program offers a holistic experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning, providing participants with a comprehensive introduction to university life.
The Mini-University Summer Camp encompasses a diverse range of activities, including academic, physical, creative, cultural, and social components. This multifaceted approach aims to cater to the varied interests and strengths of Indigenous students, allowing them to explore different facets of university education. Through engaging academic sessions, students gain insights into potential areas of study, sparking curiosity and igniting a passion for learning.
One of the key advantages of the Mini-University program is its focus on creating a supportive and culturally enriching environment. Indigenous students have the opportunity to connect with their cultural heritage, fostering a sense of identity and belonging. The inclusion of cultural activities and Indigenous supports reflects UVic's commitment to creating an inclusive and culturally safe space for Indigenous students.
Living on campus during the Mini-University Summer Camp provides participants with a glimpse into the daily life of a university student. The program encourages Indigenous youth to consider higher education as a viable and attainable path, breaking down barriers that may have otherwise hindered their pursuit of post-secondary education.

The $100 camp registration fee includes all activities, meals, on-campus accommodation and local transportation.
