ATLAS masterclass 2014

"The VISPA ATLAS group hosted its third Masterclass on April 5th 2014, with 15 keen students from five Victoria area High Schools.  The students gathered at the University of Victoria for a one day crash course in particle physics, experiencing what it's like to be an ATLAS scientist.  The day comprised of relevant physics demos and talks on fundamental forces, the Standard Model, and the ATLAS detector.  The students then analyzed actual data for the purpose of finding Z and Higgs bosons, and in true collaboration fashion, shared their results via video conference with similar Masterclasses held simultaneously in Vancouver at TRIUMF and Simon Fraser University.

The feedback was very positive!  Many thanks to the High School teachers and students for their participation, and to all the VISPA members involved in organizing this event.

Stay tuned for the next ATLAS Masterclass in the Spring of 2015!
