Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are funded by the University of Victoria Foundation.

Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.

Edward Hammond King Bursary*

One or more bursaries are awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in the Faculty of Science, with preference for students in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences..

Jane Seaborne Bursary*

One or more bursaries are awarded to women students in a major or honours program in Biology, Biochemistry and Microbiology, Chemistry, Earth and Ocean Sciences, or Physics and Astronomy. Preference will be given to students who are involved in intramural sports.

Michael Daniska Memorial Bursary*

One or more bursaries are awarded to undergraduate students in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences. Preference will be given to students entering third or fourth year who have completed at least one co-op work term.

Susan Hill and Susanne Diakiw Bursary in Earth and Ocean Sciences*

One or more bursaries are awarded to women undergraduate students in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

VNHS Samuel Simco Graduate Bursary

One or more bursaries, established by the Victoria Natural History Society from funds bequeathed for this purpose by the late Mr. Samuel Simco, are awarded to graduate students in Biology, Earth and Ocean Sciences, Environmental Studies, or Geography and who are specializing in the area of species and/or habitat conservation.

Applications from students are not required for scholarships listed in this section.

These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals, and prizes.

Emma Machado Memorial Scholarship*

A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding student continuing or transferring into the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences in the Faculty of Science.

Applications from students are not required for scholarships listed in this section.

Unless otherwise indicated, recipients are approved by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals, and prizes.

Alfred and Adriana Potvin Scholarship in Ocean Science*

Scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding students in an Ocean Sciences Minor or the Combined Honours in Physics and Ocean Sciences (Ocean-Atmosphere Dynamics) program in the School of Earth & Ocean Sciences and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Chris and Susan Barnes Scholarship for Honours Thesis*

A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences who has completed the best Honours Thesis (EOS 499). The award may be given to a graduating student.

Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding student entering the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences in the Faculty of Science.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC Scholarship in Geoscience

Value: $1,500 | Number: 1

A scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded to a student entering the 3rd year in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria in a Major or Honours in Earth Sciences or a combined Major and Honours in Physical Geography and Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Frances Oldham Kelsey Scholarship*

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the Department of Biology or the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Geological Association of Canada, Pacfic Section Scholarship*

Value: Varies | Number: 1

A scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student who is entering third or fourth year, pursuing a full time course of study at the University of Victoria directed towards a career in solid earth science.

The recipient also receives a membership to the Pacific Section for the duration of one year.

Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Ron C. Wells Geological Award

One or more awards are given to undergraduate students entering third or fourth year in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences who have a focus on geology. Preference will be given to students with an interest in mineral resources. Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

School of Earth and Ocean Sciences Field School Award

One or more awards will be given to academically outstanding students in each of the field schools (EOS 300, 400 and 401) in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Stanley John Cross and Marjorie Irene Mary Cross Scholarship*

One or more scholarships are awarded to students registered in a program in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

VNHS Dennis and Lyndis Davis Scholarship*

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the Department of Biology, or the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences. Preference will be given to students pursuing studies in species, habitat or ecosystem conservation, ecology or biodiversity. Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Faculty of Science.

Applications are required for in-course scholarships listed in this section. These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals, and prizes.

Sellemah Scholarship*

One or more scholarships, of at least $1,000 each, are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate Canadian-born Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) students in the School of Environmental Studies. If no applicants meet this criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to Canadian-born Indigenous undergraduate students in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
