Library Awards

Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are funded by the University of Victoria Foundation.

Applications are required for in-course scholarships listed in this section. These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals, and prizes. 

  • Unless stated otherwise, the application must be made through completion of the in-course scholarship application on UVic Online tools.
  • The deadline, unless stated otherwise, is May 31.

 

David Harris Flaherty Scholarship*

Value: $1,000 | Number: Varies

One or more scholarships of at least $1,000 each are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in any discipline who can show how they have utilized library resources - be they print archival, music, multi-media, digital, etc. - for a class project, assignment or research paper. Eligibility students must complete at 500 word essay explaining their use of library resources in an application. The University Librarian's Office will nominate the recipient.

Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the University Librarian's Office.

Gladys Nipp and Stephen Mah Family Award

One or more awards are given to undergraduate or graduate students in any discipline who are utilizing and/or enhancing the UVic Libraries' Chinese Canadian collections for the purposes of research, outreach initiatives (including both physical and/or digital exhibitions), or oral history projects. Applicants must submit a proposal (maximum 500 words) demonstrating how the collections will assist in their work.

Applications are due to the University Librarian's office by April 15. Approval of the recipients will be made by either the Senate Committee on Awards for undergraduate students, or the Faculty of Graduate Studies Graduate Awards Committee for graduate students, upon the recommendation of the University Librarian.
