We are dedicated to helping protect and educate faculty, staff, students and visiting researchers who work with biohazardous materials in the teaching and research environments.

Which Biosafety course(s) do I need?

Biosafety Training for Lab Workers - in class

This course is required for all individuals working at UVic who will be using biohazardous materials and who have not completed the OHSE biosafety training course yet. 

This course is intended to provide an overview of the UVic Biosafety Practices based on the Public Health Agency of Canada Canadian Biosafety Standards.

Biosafety Training Refresher - for lab workers

This online course is intended for those who work in a biological lab and have previously completed the Biosafety Training for Lab Workers in class course.

Training is required to be refreshed every 3 years.

Biosafety Awareness

The online course is intended to provide awareness to the hazards, signage and equipment for individuals who do not work directly with biohazardous materials.

Biosafety Emergency Response Procedures

This online course is intended to provide an overview of the UVic Biosafety Emergency Response Procedures (ERP). The emergency procedures provided in the course have been adapted from the Campus-Wide UVic Emergency Response Procedures.  This training covers building safety, emergency resonse procedures, biological and chemical spill response, and incident reporting.

Cytotoxic Drug Awareness

This online course is intended to provide general information on safe handling and use of cytotoxic drugs.  It is the responsibility of your Supervisor to provide job-specific training related to your work environment.
