RCS 120: The People, Practices and Politics of Contemporary Yoga

Yoga

A critical and experiential introduction to the major forms of modern postural yoga in the West. Students will experience or observe several forms of yoga and will think together about the impact of social forces (e.g., gender roles, social class, race, capitalism, and cultural appropriation) on yoga. Our discussions about yoga will help us understand the major shifts underway in culture, religion, and spirituality in the West.
