The Medieval Studies Program is host to several different and exciting research opportunities and initiatives—there is truly something for everyone!

Whether your interest lies in planning and executing events, presenting your independent research, engaging in scholarly discussion or writing and researching as part of a larger group project, we're eager to receive your contributions.

Faces of UVic Research: Hélène Cazes
Dr. Hélène Cazes is an Associate Professor with the Department of French in the Faculty of Humanities as well as the Director of the Program of Medieval Studies and the Coordinator of the Humanities Diploma program. In this video, Hélène talks about her research studying Medieval and Renaissance literature and what text represents from a human and societal prospective. Faces of UVic Research: Iain Higgins
Dr. Iain Higgins is a professor in the Department of English at the University of Victoria Faculty of Humanities. His teaching and research interests include later medieval English, Scottish, and French literature, travel writing, and poetry both medieval and modern. In this video, he discusses his interest in translation, specifically the translation of new experience required in medieval travel writing. He goes on to explain the influence this travel writing has had on language still in use today. He also speaks to a certain collection of travel writings called the Book of John Mandeville from the 14th century, a translated version of which can be found at http://www.hackettpublishing.com/literature/the-travels-of-sir-john-mandeville.
