Emily worked as an intern for six months in the entertainment team at an all-inclusive resort in Playa Del Carmen. She now works there full-time and her duties include leading multiple sport and fitness-oriented activities in English, Spanish and French, encouraging guests to participate in games and activities through public relations, communicating with guests and providing tour and travel advice and recommendations. BA in Latin American Studies (2013)

When she started out at UVic, Rebecca wasn't really sure what she should major in, but she knew she loved different cultures. After a trip to Guatemala, she decided to pursue Latin American studies, as she fell in love with the people and their language. Her studies gave her insight into the culture and history of Latin America. She took courses ranging from politics, to geography, to Spanish. It helped her appreciate the culture more because she knows more of the history of Latin America and how that has shaped people over generations. Read more

BA in Latin American Studies (2014)

Kate says the language and anthropology courses from her LAS degree have helped her connect with people at work from Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. She is motivated to continue studying Spanish, as she will be travelling to Central America. She says she is grateful to have a foundation in Spanish, because it opens the door to communicate as she travels, and to speak with new Canadians and travellers where she currently lives in Canmore. BA in Latin American Studies and Environmental Studies (2015)

Emily is a professional vocalist in New York City who performs regularly with an Afro-Cuban band and sings and composes in Spanish. She previously worked as a bilingual research interviewer at the Hebrew Home for the Aged and for three years at a fully bilingual syringe exchange in upper Manhattan. She also works as a freelance interpreter and translator. Read more

BA in Latin American Studies (2005)

Born in Colombia, conflict resolution, reconciliation, socio-political violence, and peacebuilding topics are at the core of David’s academic and professional interests. Growing up in Canada as a refugee, David also connected with the social realities that many newcomers and immigrants face when trying to settle and integrate into a new and unknown cultural environment. David currently works at Global Affairs Canada and leads on a variety of interesting files including youth political participation, climate change, digital inclusion and supported Canada’s Chairship of International IDEA and the Community of Democracies. David has experience working with civil society, peacebuilding, and international development issues in Colombia, Brazil, and Canada. David obtained a BA in Political Science and Latin American Studies from the University of Victoria in 2018. Read more.
