Aesthetics, History of European Philosophy, Ancient European Philosophy, Early Modern European Philosophy, Applied Ethics, Philosophy of Science; with special interests in Environmental Aesthetics and Ethics, Philosophy of Prehistoric and Contemporary Art, and Alexander von Humboldt Studies.

Dr. Thomas Heyd's main research interest is European history of philosophy. He teaches courses on early modern thought in the 17th to 19th centuries, as well as on ancient philosophy. His interests also extend to the history of science and art in Europe. Dr. Heyd founded the Canadian Society for the Study of European Ideas in 1990, and lead it in various capacities until 2000. In 2011, he took on the role of liaison for Spain as part of the European Network for Environmental Ethics.
