Germanic Studies awards and scholarships
Except for the Hans and Imogen Bach Scholarship, you will be automatically considered for these awards.
- Walter Riedel Scholarship is awarded to a student in the Honours or Major program in Germanic Studies. Preference is given to students enrolled in at least one course in the Faculty of Fine Arts.
- The German Club Scholastic Award is awarded annually to a promising first, second or third year student intending to continue German studies at the University of Victoria.
- Government of the Federal Republic of Germany Book Prizes are available for students in each undergraduate year demonstrating excellence in German Studies.
- Hans and Imogen Bach Scholarship is awarded to students in an Honours or Major program in Germanic Studies.
- The Dr. Nora Haimberger Scholarships include two scholarships awarded annually to an outstanding student entering the 4th year of a Major or Honours program in Germanic Studies and to a promising student enrolled in the 1st year of Germanic Studies.
- The J. Beattie MacLean Scholarship is awarded annually to a student of outstanding merit and promise in 2nd or 3rd year who intends to continue studies in German at the University of Victoria.
- The Book Prizes of the Ambassador of Switzerland to Canada is awarded to a student with high standing in German.
- The Carl Weiselberger Memorial Prize in German is awarded to a promising senior student in German on the recommendation of Germanic and Slavic Studies.
- The University of Victoria German Club Jubilee Award provides two German/English Dictionaries to promising first or second year students intending to continue German studies at the University of Victoria.
- Embassy of Iceland Book Prize. A book prize is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in GMST 369: Topics in Scandinavian Studies. Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon recommendation of Germanic and Slavic Studies.
- Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Award.
