National Centre For Indigenous Laws

The guiding principles and key purposes for the Fraser Expansion, overlaid on trees and their roots respectively.

The NCIL was designed with eight guiding principles and four key purposes.

Six different design principles used to create the NCIL

Guiding Principles and conceptual diagrams were developed through engagement with stakeholders, the Faculty of Law, Indigenous community members, the campus community, UVic partners, and the project team.

The Four Key Purposes of the project are to create a space for:

  • Convening
  • Research
  • Sharing
  • Stimulating

These Purposes established the roots from which the Guiding Principles grew.

Building on this vision, Project Management Services guided the consulting team through a conceptual site analysis, incorporating feedback from stakeholders. These site diagrams begin to identify the location, form, connection, orientation and circulation of the expansion to Fraser Law.
