Dr. St. Clair brings a wealth of leadership and administrative experiences, stretching from Europe to North America, to the Dean of Education position including roles such as Director of a major state literacy centre, Director of First Nations and Inuit Education Programs, Director of Faculty Master’s Programs, Dean of Graduate Studies, and Chair of a large interdisciplinary department. Dr. St. Clair has been actively involved in creating international partnerships and recruitment opportunities, and he is currently a leader in the establishment of an international graduate program between three countries.

Dr. St. Clair is a leading researcher in the areas of adult literacy and community initiatives, the formation of aspirations by First Nations youth, and research patterns in higher education. His research record includes partnerships at the local, national, and international levels, and over the last five years he has received $1.4 million in research funding. Included in his current research portfolio is a national partnership study among First Nations communities in several Canadian provinces. He is the sole author of two books and editor of another. He has published a substantial number of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and has served as an editor on several special journal issues.

Dr. St. Clair’s record of teaching includes educational and social research, adult and continuing education, understanding educational inquiry, and critical influences on educational praxis. Of significance is his substantial engagement in, and knowledge of First Nations education and on-line and distance learning platforms and approaches.
