Student Clubs
Our student clubs are the best opportunity to develop your skills, put classroom learning into practice, give back to your community and make friends! These welcoming groups offer opportunities and experiences to students from all years and areas of study.
EDSA is a student-run organization that serves undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education by offering funding for professional development, organizing social activities, providing student representation on faculty committees and sharing resources. Follow @UVicEDSA on Instagram.

Housing
We know finding housing is a top priority for students!
On-campus housing
UVic Residence currently houses 2,300 beds and 181 family housing units on and around campus. Prospective students who are interested in living on-campus should visit Residence Services to learn more about student housing facilities. You can also book a UVic Residence Tour or check out online 360 room tours.

Off-campus housing
UVic partners with an organization called Places4Students to provide off-campus listings for renters and landlords. Craigslist, and Used Victoria are good resources for finding rentals and rooms. Property management companies like Brown Bros, Devon Properties and Proline Management also list rentals.
To help you find roommates, suites and shares, students have created two non-official Facebook groups: UVic Off-Campus Group and UVic Off-Campus Housing.

Awards & scholarships
The Faculty of Education offers several awards, scholarships, and bursaries to students in our faculty. Scholarships are awarded based on GPA using the list of students who are registered in the Faculty of Education on June 1 each year. All scholarship applications must be submitted via email to adasst@uvic.ca by May 31, 2024, unless otherwise noted.
Awards
One or more awards are given to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education to travel within Canada or internationally to attend or present at a conference, workshop or travel to support their studies.
One or more awards are given to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education Teacher Education program to enhance the student learning experience through, but not limited to, field schools, conferences and practicum placements.
The award will also assist students with the costs of travel and fees associated with their activity. Preference will be given to students in spring practicum placements.
One award is given to an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Education enrolled in either the Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization or the Bachelor of Education in Indigenous Language Revitalization who is developing their own language proficiency and has a strong record of contributing to their/a language community through their work.
One or more awards are given to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education who are actively involved as student leaders on campus or in the community and who demonstrate a record of outstanding contributions to the community through their work.
The Diversity in Education Award is given annually to a student, staff or faculty member within the Faculty of Education who demonstrates leadership in diversity and inclusion. Students, staff or faculty must be nominated by others for this award.
The Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award is granted annually to one Master’s and one PhD student from the Faculty of Education. The award is to recognize a graduate student for their research, and creative or scholarly contributions to their discipline. Any graduate student who has completed their degree within the designated period in the Faculty of Education is eligible to be nominated for the award. Each student shall receive a plaque and a monetary award. Award winners are expected to present results of their thesis or dissertation in a public presentation.
One award is granted annually to an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Education who is actively involved in and demonstrates outstanding contributions to the University of Victoria community.
This $500 monetary award recognizes the student for their significant volunteer service and contributions to the University of Victoria community while completing their program within the Faculty of Education. Any undergraduate student presently registered in a Faculty of Education program including Kinesiology, Recreation Health Education, B. Ed. and PDPP Teacher Education Programs, or BEDILR is eligible and may apply for the award. Examples of volunteer service and contributions include, but are not limited to, active volunteer (unpaid) service in student and University of Victoria events, workshops, organizations, and clubs.
Scholarships
One or more scholarships are awarded to students entering their final year of a program in elementary education with a view to excellence in science education and or science education leadership. Student(s) must have demonstrated excellent teaching performance and the ability to use creative approaches to teaching as documented in practica reports, school visits, and planning.
One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education who are entering their final year of a program in secondary education with a view to teaching science. Applicants must have volunteer experience while at the University of Victoria. Applications must be accompanied by two letters (max. 300 words) in support of their volunteer work.
A scholarship is awarded to a student entering their final year of a program in elementary education. The student must have demonstrated excellent teaching performance and the ability to use innovative approaches to teaching as documented in practica reports and have achieved first-class standing in coursework.
One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education who are entering their final year of a program in secondary education. Applicants must have volunteer experience while at the University of Victoria. Applications must be accompanied by two letters (max. 300 words) in support of their volunteer work.
One or more scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in a B.Ed. program. Selection will be based on
the following criteria:
- Outstanding academic achievement
- Demonstrated contributions to a range of university and community activities. Final selection will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon recommendation of the Faculty of Education. The selection process at the Faculty level may include an interview of selected candidates.
One or more scholarships are awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in the Faculty of Education who have achieved academic excellence, and who are actively involved in the community and have a record of outstanding contributions to the community through their work as volunteers.
One or more scholarships are awarded to post-degree (Secondary) students who have a declared teaching area in Chemistry or Physics. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated involvement and/or leadership in the community and have an outstanding grade point average in their chemistry or physics courses.
A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in the Faculty of Education who has demonstrated a commitment to working with children with special needs requiring learning support. In the form of a letter, applicants must submit evidence of their commitment, such as courses taken, paid employment or volunteer experience.

In our community and across campus
The Equity and Human Rights Office is a resource for all UVic community members, providing education, information, help and advice to build and support an inclusive campus. Areas of support include:
- sexualized violence
- discrimination, harassment and bullying
- employment equity
- education and initiatives across campus
The UVic Students’ Society has an extensive list of clubs, teams and societies on campus. Several of these support students who identify as belonging to underrepresented groups.
- Resources for BIPOCs is a list of community resources and information for those who identify as Black, Indigenous or as a Person of Colour. UVic’s Centre for Youth and Society maintains this list.
- Students of Colour Collective (SOCC) is a group of self-identified Black, Indigenous and/or Persons of Colour operating as an advocacy group out of UVic. SOCC’s priorities are mental health, advocacy, decolonization, anti-racism, inclusion and diversity creation work, as well as providing educational resources for individuals.
- Commit to action to end racism. This is an invitation to members of the UVic community to support the end of racism through a list of action items. The Equity and Human Rights office maintains this list.
- Gender diversity and trans inclusion resources supporting the inclusion of gender diversity at UVic. UVic’s Equity and Human Rights office maintains this list.
- LGBTQ+ Resources is a list of community resources and other information for individuals with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. UVic’s Centre for Youth and Society maintains this list.
- Vancouver Island Trans Resources is a list of community resources for trans, nonbinary, two-spirit and other gender-diverse people on Vancouver Island, in areas such as support, advocacy and health. UVic’s Chair in Transgender Studies maintains this list.
