May 29, 2024

Luiz Henrique Da Silva Correa is a PhD student in Civil Engineering at UVic who recently participated in a field school in Colombia at the beginning of May as part of the Water and Sanitation Field School CIVE 543 course. He was awarded funding of $4000 from the One World Scholarship program, to pursue his research internationally.

“My international experience in Ibagué, Colombia, was absolutely amazing and exceeded all my expectations. I am grateful for the travel funding provided by the One World International Scholarship Program, which allows students to expand their educational experience while developing a globally literate citizenry,” he said.

His experience onsite in Colombia offered real-world, experiential learning in the areas of water and sanitation management as well as many providing exciting opportunities to connect with working professionals in his research area.

“During the field course, I gained insights into the latest research and projects in water and sanitation treatment technologies in Colombia, engaged with professionals in the field, and established connections for potential research collaborations. This experience has equipped me with the tools and perspectives necessary to make meaningful contributions to water treatment technologies and sustainability efforts. I look forward to applying the lessons learned from the Field School to my ongoing Ph.D. research on optimizing desalination technology for sustainable access to clean water.”
