Retiree Recognition

Retirees' Recognition is an annual event hosted by the president to recognize the long-term dedication and contribution of UVic employees who retire during the current academic year.

This year we recognize 121 retirees from across campus for their amazing contributions to UVic over the years.

Statement from the Interim President of the UVic Retirees Association (UVRA):

On behalf of the UVic Retirees Association (UVRA), I want to welcome you to Retirement and the opportunity to decide what the next stage of your life looks like. Does that seem daunting or exciting? Well…you can make each day a new adventure, build a new routine or adapt an old routine to the new reality. Whatever you choose – make it your own!

The members of your retiree association, can relate to what you are feeling. We had to make those many choices in pension options and decided which extended health plan to join – Pacific Blue Cross or those accessed via UVRA – Johnson Medical or RTO (Retired Teachers of Ontario)? These are important decisions so ensure that you consider them carefully before choosing the best option that suits your needs.

UVRA and its over 770 members helped me feel part of a new community and gave me access to some excellent benefits that in my case included great travel insurance options and a reduced fee on membership in the University Club. It also has a wider focus by supporting research activities into the factors that affect those within our 55+ age group through the establishment of two UVic Graduate Student Scholarships.

UVRA maintains a connection to UVic and seeks to “foster the social, personal and intellectual well-being of our members and the community.” Our members continue to volunteer at UVic events, conduct research and supervise graduate students, while others volunteer in the community and across the region.

If you have not yet, check out our website which contains information on benefits, activities, our quarterly newsletter “Grey Matters!” and membership. You will be amazed at the range of interesting topics listed on our Events page. Our association is there for you so come join us.

If you have questions email uvra@uvic.ca or me at .

See you at a future UVRA member’s event.
Congratulations again!
