How to apply for an entrance scholarship

UVic offers two main types of centrally-administered entrance scholarships for students entering a full-time undergraduate degree program: entrance scholarships based on admission average and entrance scholarships based on admission average and other criteria (application required).

Students must have an offer of admission in order to receive a scholarship offer and must register and maintain enrolment as a full-time student in either the summer session (May to August, 6.0 academic units) or the winter session (September to April, 12.0 academic units) to receive their scholarship.

Entrance scholarships based on admission average - No application required

Current grade 12 students completing a Canadian secondary diploma

To be automatically considered for entrance scholarships based on admission average, current grade 12 students completing the BC curriculum MUST order transcripts through StudentTranscripts Service (STS) when they submit their university application through EducationPlannerBC. BC students must choose the default option which allows updates for one year. 

Current grade 12 Canadian secondary students outside of BC, including international students completing a Canadian secondary school diploma and students who are in accelerated entry, MUST self-report their grade 12 marks between February 15 and March 15. Students completing an International Baccalaureate Diploma can also self-report their IB marks.

Please note:

  • All self-reported grades will be verified against official grades from your school*
  • If a student does not sign up for STS, or does not self-report their grade 12 marks, they will not be considered for entrance scholarships based on admission average at a later date
  • UVic does not round up percentages. Actual marks will be used in assessment

*As early scholarship offers are based on self-reported marks, we will be reviewing final marks in August before finalizing scholarship offers. Students must also register as a full-time student in order to receive their UVic scholarship funds.

Canadian secondary school graduates

To be automatically considered for an entrance scholarship based on admission average secondary school graduates must be entering UVic within two years of graduation and have not attended another post-secondary institution. Students must send a final transcript to Undergraduate Admissions by March 15th.

Canadian citizens studying outside of Canada (secondary school students)

To be automatically considered for an entrance scholarship based on admission average students must send in an interim transcript to Undergraduate Admissions by March 15th. 

International secondary students studying outside of Canada (current and graduates)

To be automatically considered for an entrance scholarship based on admission students (current and high school graduates) must send in either an interim or final transcript to Undergraduate Admissions by March 15th. Transfer students entering directly from a Canadian college or university

To be automatically considered for a transfer scholarship, students MUST be transferring directly from an undergraduate program at a Canadian college or university into a UVic undergraduate program and have a 7.5/9.0 (UVic scale) transfer or diploma admission average  and have sent a final transcript to Undergraduate Admissions by the required scholarship deadline. Please note, if you are in a specialized program such as Nursing, Engineering, or Business, we will use the required courses for your program for GPA assessment.

All transfer students must be transferring directly (one semester without studies between their current institution and transferring into UVic) from a Canadian college or university into a UVic undergraduate degree program. 

*Please note, if you are a returning student to UVic you need to contact for a scholarship review as your assessment is not automatic. Students will need to have transcripts in by the required deadlines.

Entrance scholarships based on admission average and other criteria - Application required

To be considered for an entrance/transfer scholarship based on admission average and other criteria students must complete the online scholarship application between February 15 - April 30.

*Students entering in the January term can apply via the entrance or transfer application, as they will not be eligible for the incourse online application.

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for the online entrance/transfer scholarships students must normally:

  • Be entering UVic directly from a Canadian secondary school, including international students who are completing a Canadian secondary diploma
  • Be a Canadian citizen studying grade 12 outside of Canada
  • Be a secondary school graduate – entering UVic within two years of graduation and have not attended another post secondary institution
  • Have an 85% admission average or 32 IB points 
  • Be entering UVic directly from a Canadian college or university
  • Have a 7.5/9.0 (UVic scale) transfer or diploma admission average

*Transfer students entering in Term 2 (January) of the Winter Session are eligible to apply using the online transfer application, as they will not be eligible for the incourse scholarship application.

Accessing the online applications

  1. Create a NetLink ID
  2. Sign into UVic Online tools using your Netlink ID
  3. Select "Student services"
  4. Select "Awards and financial aid"
  5. Select "Apply for awards (scholarships and bursaries) and work study"
  6. Select the Aid year and Period and the relevant application:
  • Canadian undergraduate secondary school application
  • Canadian undergraduate transfer application

It is the student’s responsibility to send in all required supporting documentation to entrance@uvic.ca by April 30. Please ensure that your UVic ID, full name, and the scholarship you are applying for are in the subject line.
