About

My name is Tara (She/Her). I am an advanced practicum counsellor at the SWC. I am currently in the second year of my MA in Counselling Psychology at UVic. I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm First Nations. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at UVic, as an uninvited visitor on the unceded and traditional territories of the WSÁNEĆ, Songhees, and Esquimalt peoples, where I continue to reside today. When I am not at the SWC, I love reading, being out in nature, and connecting with others.

Counselling approach

I have experience working with diverse counselling populations including gender based violence survivors, people with disabilities, unhoused peoples, and students. I completed my first-year practicum at the SWC and supported students with issues related to mood (i.e., anxiety, stress, depression), identity exploration, relationship challenges, and adjustment concerns (i.e., loneliness, study skills, academic supports). I use an integrative and relational counselling approach to meet the unique needs of each student. I look forward to sharing a healing space together and supporting you in your journey as a student at UVic!
