As CAO, Mark is responsible for managing the governance of the District of Ucluelet, ensuring the maintenance of infrastructure systems, and overseeing the finance, planning, and parks and recreation departments. He also looks to incorporate sustainability best practices across all aspects of municipal functions. Mark came to Ucluelet after 9 years working in local government in Southern Vancouver Island, as the sustainability and climate action lead for the City of Victoria and the District of Saanich. After graduating from UVic, Mark first worked for 10 years as an environmental consultant, supporting industry and corporations to reduce their carbon footprint. Mark is a member of the Planning Institute of BC and the Canadian Institute of Planners.

My geography degree gave me a range of skills and understanding that eventually led to my current role. This position requires a combination of social and scientific skills the the geography program helped me to develop early on.
