About

My research is centered on a) motivation for physical activity as described by the Self Determination Theory of Motivation b) how wearable technology supports or thwarts motivation in various populations and c) how to optimize wearable technology, either by combining it with other interventions or altering the user interface, to support the development and maintenance of autonomous motivation for, and engagement in, physical activity. I envision commercial wearable devices having the capacity to deliver personalized goals, prompts for specific behaviors in an optimized timeframe, and meaningful data to the individual user. I am inclined to believe that these types of changes to wearables can make them more effective drivers of physical activity.

When I'm not needing out over wearable technology and motivation, I like to lift weights, walk my dogs, take dance classes, and try new restaurants. I'm also a personal trainer and health coach working to support my clients in creating their healthiest lives. I also spend as much time as I can with my partner of 16 years watching professional sports and silly reality TV shows.
