Credentials

M.A.Sc.

Susan Burton was at IESVic from 2007-2009. Her research focused on the technical and economic effects of integrating wave and tidal stream energy into the Haida Gwaii electrical grid. This included development of an economic dispatch optimization model, characterisation of renewable energy resources, and identification of potential cost and CO2 savings.

Subsequently Susan worked as a Resource Planning Engineer at BC Hydro in the Generation Resource Management group, where she performed studies that contributed to short and mid-term planning of the BC Hydro generation system. At the same time, she worked on the Columbia River Treaty review, completing system operation and fisheries impact studies to help inform treaty re-negotiations.

From 2015-2018 she was a Senior Resource Planning Engineer in the Energy Planning group at BC Hydro. Her team was responsible for delivering BC Hydro’s Integrated Resource Plan, which produces recommendations for future resource acquisition. As part of this work, she performed long-term planning studies and led the development of BC Hydro’s long-term electricity market price forecast, which was used in planning throughout the organization.

Presently she is a Senior Planner for the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), where she is helping to design Ontario’s proposed capacity auction as part of the Market Renewal Program.
