Abstract:

The Centre for Global Studies welcomes Linda Sheehan for a presentation and discussion on "Reclaiming Prosperity through Nature's Rights"

Ms. Sheehan will look at how current understandings of prosperity are driving ecological degradation, and describe alternative definitions that support healthy relationships with the natural world. She will then describe how British Columbians can begin to support such relationships in their governance systems, specifically through recognition of the rights of nature in municipal law.

Linda Sheehan is Executive Director of Earth Law Center in California, and Visiting Research Fellow with the Centre for Global Studies at the University of Victoria
