Past Wrongs, Future Choices

Michael Prior was a Visiting Scholar at CFGS for the Past Wrongs, Future Choices project. He is an Assistant Professor of English and Associated Colleges of the Midwest Faculty Fellow at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. During his residency, Prior will continue his work on a collection of peotry that explores generational and cultural memory in relation to the internment as well as the complexities of mixed-race identity.

Michael is the author of two books of poetry. His second collection, Burning Province, won the 2020 Canada-Japan Literary Award and the 2021 BC & Yukon Book Prizes' Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. He is the recent recipient of fellowships from the Amy Klampett Residency, the New York Public Library's Cullman Center, and the Jerome Foundation. His poems have appeared in places like Poetry, the New Republic, Kenyon Review, Poetry Daily, and the Academy of the American Poets' Poem a Day series. Prior edits the Signal Editions poetry imprint at Véhicule Press and teaches at Macalester College in Saint Paul.
