Research Intelligence

The Research Intelligence team is responsible for analyzing and reporting on research activity at UVic. This analysis helps inform strategic planning across the university related to the research portfolio.

We do this by:

  • developing tools and resources for faculty and administrators that track trends in key research indicators
  • providing customized reports and analysis on request
  • analyzing UVic’s standing on major university rankings and informing strategies to improve our performance

VPRI Research Intelligence dashboards

We have developed a set of dashboards for faculty leaders and administrators, allowing them to explore a variety of metrics related to research funding, publications and citations, and graduate students.

Access is restricted to designated users. Contact our Research Data Analyst about accessing the dashboards.

Responsible research assessment

We are committed to fostering a culture of responsible research assessment at UVic. UVic is a proud signatory of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). In our use of research metrics, we follow the principles outlined in the Leiden Manifesto and other compilations of research assessment best practices.

Faculty publication records and unique identifiers

Pulling accurate publication data requires matching researchers correctly and systematically with their papers. The most reliable way to do this is with unique author IDs.

All UVic faculty and researchers are encouraged to register for an ORCID ID and use it for all publications. Learn more about ORCID ID from UVic Libraries.

We recommend that researchers regularly review and update their publication records on major scholarly databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar.
