Orange Shirt Day 2022
Leading up to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day on Sept. 30, the University of Victoria will be hosting several public events to honour and support the children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.

Orange Shirt Day at UVic goes virtual this year, featuring a conversation between UVic Chancellor Shelagh Rogers and Phyllis Webstad, whose story sparked the drive to recognize Orange Shirt Day.

For the third year, UVic will hold an Orange Shirt Day observation in the quad. Orange Shirt Day brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the spirit of reconciliation to honour Indian residential school survivors and their families.

During the week of Sept. 25-30, many UVic faculty, staff and students will wear orange shirts to show respect for residential school survivors and their families, and a commitment to the principle that every child matters.

The Ring
Indigenous Education at UVic joins a growing number of communities, schools, First Nations and local governments in Canada by honouring Orange Shirt Day on September 30—in recognition of the harms the residential school system did to children's sense of self-esteem and wellbeing, and as an opportunity to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
