New and returning deans
The Ring
UVic welcomed several new deans in 2021, in human and social development, social sciences, engineering and computer science, graduate studies, and humanities—as well as an acting dean in law. Dean searches are currently underway in fine arts, education, and business, with new leadership expected in 2022.
New and incoming deans
The Ring
UVic welcomes several new deans this year. Helga Hallgrímsdóttir as Dean of the Faculty of Human and Social Development, Lois Harder in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mina Hoorfar in the Faculty of Engineering.
New terms for deans begin in July
The Ring
Three dean changes took effect July 1: Chris Goto-Jones began a five-year term as Dean of Humanities; Susan Lewis began a five-year term as Dean of Fine Arts; and Rob Lipson returned from administrative leave to resume his position as Dean of Science. Additionally, Oliver Schmidtke has been appointed Acting AVP Research for a one-year term, and Nancy Wright has taken up her position as AVP Academic Planning for a five-year term.

Four new academic leaders take up their posts at UVic this summer with the appointments of Dr. Patricia Marck as dean of human and social development, Dr. Susan Lewis as acting dean of fine arts, Dr. Cedric Littlewood as new acting dean of humanities and Dr. Kathryn Gillis as acting dean of science.
