Welcome to a new academic year at UVic! We would like to take this opportunity to provide a brief update on the current on-campus activities and guidance related to COVID-19. 

The UVic community joins people around the world to mark the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We have lowered flags on our campus to half-staff to honour her lifetime of service as a world leader.

The Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Equity and Human Rights are leading a consultation process to determine if and how UVic’s rainbow crosswalk should be repainted.

Do you know an exceptional graduate that deserves to be recognized? Now is your chance to nominate them for a 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award—by October 14.

UVic Libraries welcomes applications to the Peter and Ana Lowens University of Victoria Libraries Special Collections Student Fellowship Program.  The Fellowships are open to UVic undergraduate and graduate students from any discipline. 

UVic has a new Undergraduate Academic Concessions Regulation, approved by Senate in May 2022. This notice highlights key changes important for faculty and instructors. We encourage instructors to update their syllabi to reflect this new approach if applicable.

As we look forward to welcoming new and returning students for the fall term, UVic is continuing to manage the evolving impacts of COVID-19 on our community. We remain committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all students, faculty and staff, and will be offering in-person learning for most courses—unless otherwise noted at the time of registration.

The VPAC office is surveying current UVic faculty and instructors to learn more about how best to support them in their use of educational technologies, specifically class recordings. Survey results will help us to prioritize resources going forward.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for our region. This is a reminder for our campus community to be sun safe when outdoors and stay hydrated during hot weather.

As of July 18, the UVic bookstore will be selling orange shirts in support of Orange Shirt Day, coinciding with National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.

Dr. A.R. (Elango) Elangovan has been appointed associate vice-president global engagement (AVPGE), effective September 1, 2022, for a five-year term.
