Return-to-Campus Guidelines now available

- University of Victoria

The COVID-19 Return-to-Campus Guidelines were released July 5 by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training to support the full return to in-person education, research and on-campus services for BC’s post-secondary institutions. This follows the transition to Step 3 of the BC Restart Plan on July 1, and high vaccination rates in BC.

The COVID-19 Return-to-Campus Guidelines are aligned with BC’s Restart Plan, and reflect a transition away from COVID-specific orders and protocols to more general institutional occupational health and safety protocols and guidance.

The guidelines were developed by a team of experts from BC’s post-secondary sector in partnership with representatives from the office of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), regional health authorities, BC Centre for Disease Control and Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

The guidelines are effective immediately and replace the COVID-19 Go-Forward Guidelines for B.C.’s Post-Secondary Sector (June 2021) and the interim Return-to-Campus Primer (April 2021).

The university will provide more details on these guidelines and our transitional plans in the coming weeks.

Commitment to health, safety and well-being

The health and safety of our campus community remains our top priority as we look forward to on-campus learning, teaching and research in September.

Health and safety measures that will remain in place, unless otherwise determined by the PHO, include:

  • Completing a daily health self-assessment and not coming to campus when ill
(Note: reporting or confirmation of health assessment by employees is no longer required)
  • Following handwashing and hygiene protocols
  • Maintaining an institutional Communicable Disease Plan
  • Routine cleaning measures
  • Wearing masks when recommended by public health
