Summer is here and heat and smoke may be in the forecast soon. The university has a range of strategies and tips to keep everyone safe during hot weather or when our region experiences wildfire smoke.

Check out our summer heat safety and outdoor air quality webpages to learn about the procedures UVic has in place and how you can prepare. For units engaged in outdoor work or outdoor summer programs, this is also a good time to review your plans and procedures to prevent heat stress and minimize exposure to poor air quality for employees and participants on hotter or smoky days.

It’s important to note that on hotter days, temperatures in some campus buildings may become uncomfortably warm. We encourage supervisors and instructors to review our guidelines for indoor environments, including a range of options and adjustments to consider while maintaining services and instruction.

Throughout the summer, the university will continue to monitor public health notifications. In the event of major heat or poor air quality, check the UVic website for current information about the status of campus operations. The university will use the website and social media channels to let you know about safety precautions and service disruptions. We do our best to share timely updates so that you have time to plan and respond.
