Message from Kevin Hall, President and Vice-Chancellor

I am thrilled that our new strategic plan, Distinctly UVic, launches today! There is no better time than today to get started on this important work.

Our new plan is a clear statement of the values and priorities that define and unite us at UVic.

Our world is drastically different than it was a decade ago and it will be equally different a decade from now. We know that being flexible and respectful, and working together to address the critical issues we are facing is what matters to the UVic community. We know this because, over our 18 months of consultation and through 6,000+ engagements, that’s what you shared with us.

We know what makes UVic distinct, and this plan is our roadmap to the future we want to create.

This plan and the stories we share on the website show how we’re constantly innovating, how we’re taking a learning stance in places we know we need to grow, and how we’re exploring solutions together that will improve life for everybody — at UVic and beyond.

Our colleagues and students are already bringing this plan to life. I’d like you to read the plan through and see where you feel a flicker of excitement or a moment of inspiration. What makes you nervous and where you believe you can contribute.

We’ve articulated a lot of goals in this plan — but don’t let that overwhelm you. It isn’t meant to create more work, instead let’s use it to ensure that what we are doing is aligned with our shared values and the future we are committed to.

A new academic year is the perfect time to refresh our perspectives, be open to opportunities and feel the energy of something new. We are so excited to see this plan come to life, and we hope you are too. We can’t wait to hear your stories that help define what makes us Distinctly UVic!
