UVic named one of BC’s top employers

The University of Victoria has been named one of BC’s top employers, recognizing that we are an industry leader in offering an exceptional place to work.

The competition recognizes the top 100+ employers in each province or region. UVic was among eight universities in BC to be honoured.

We are grateful that our deep commitment to people, places and the planet has been recognized and this award is in many ways a reflection of that commitment.”

The university was selected for a range of staff supports and recognition practices, including:

  • Cultivates a family-friendly culture with maternity and parental leave top-up for new parents and the option for employees to extend their leave into an unpaid leave of absence. The university also makes returning to work a little easier with onsite childcare and flexible work arrangements to help balance family commitments.
  • Celebrates exceptional performance through the President's Distinguished Service Awards, which includes categories for excellence in service, leadership, innovation and outstanding service.
  • Manages a comprehensive health and wellness strategy based on eight dimensions of balanced living, and recently launched virtual memberships to its on-campus fitness facility.

BC’s Top Employers are chosen by Mediacorp Canada Inc., which also coordinates the annual competitions for Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Top Diversity Employers and Canada’s Greenest Employers. UVic has been recognized as a Best Diversity Employer for ten years consecutively and six times as a Greenest Employer.

UVic also placed seventh on Forbes’ 2022 Canada’s Best Employers list, up from #12 on the 2021 list.
