A world of opportunity awaits at the new International Centre for Students

International Student Services is changing its name to better reflect its scope of services for the entire UVic community. Under its new name, the International Centre for Students (ICS) offers a place for Canadian and international students, staff and faculty to connect, build community, and learn how our diversity and similarities make us stronger.

“We worried that our old name incorrectly implied that our services and resources were exclusively intended for international students,” says Tricia Best, Director of ICS. “We’re thrilled to present this more inclusive name that demonstrates we’re here to support the entire student body.”

The name also better aligns with ICS unit goals, UVic’s Strategic Enrolment Management goals and other institutional plans.

ICS is dedicated to supporting an inclusive, diverse and globally-minded university community. Best says that learning about different cultures, perspectives and identities will help us all gain a deeper understanding of each other and the world. “We’ve renamed so that more students—both Canadian and international—can get involved in creating an inclusive and welcoming community at UVic and in the wide range of international opportunities available.”

The International Centre for Students will continue to support all students (international, Canadian and Indigenous) in connecting with intercultural experiences here in Victoria and abroad through Global Community programs and initiatives, UVic’s Exchange Program and more. Of course, the team also continues to offer the most up-to-date and authoritative advice and supports for immigration matters at UVic.

Along with the new name, ICS is relocating to the second floor of the Jamie Cassels Centre, B202d. The new location will serve as a hub for all students where a world of opportunity awaits.
