UVic VP named to board of academic leadership organization

University of Victoria Vice President External Relations Carmen Charette has been appointed as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences, for a two-year term. 

Charette is well-qualified for her new role.  Prior to joining UVic in 2012, she served as senior vice president at the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and then executive vice president for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

A national body that provides significant academic leadership, the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences is the voice and public policy advocate for Canada’s scholars, students and practitioners in the humanities and social sciences. Established in 1940, with a membership now comprising 160+ universities, colleges and scholarly associations, the Federation represents a diverse community of 85,000 researchers and graduate students across Canada. The Federation organizes Canada’s largest academic gathering, the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, bringing together more than 8,000 participants each year.
