World Partnership Walk at UVic for first time

On Sunday, May 25, UVic will welcome the annual World Partnership Walk to campus for the first time. This is the 30th year of the Walk and the inaugural year of a new event partnership between UVic and the Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC), in collaboration with Asian Heritage Celebration.

An annual initiative of AKFC, the Walk brings together tens of thousands of Canadians in cities across our country to help fight global poverty. Since its start 30 years ago, the Walk has raised over $82 million.

The Victoria event was held in previous years at Beacon Hill Park. It is supported this year by UVic’s Office of the Vice-President and Provost in collaboration with non-profit ethnic groups in celebration of May as Asian Heritage Month.

The walk begins at 11 a.m. The WPW-Victoria team will kick off activities at 9:30 a.m. with a jazzercise warm-up cl#8299; the Global Village will also take place again as in previous years. Everyone is invited to arrive early to register, hand in pledge books and monies, and warm up.

Registration and donations can also be made online at www.worldpartnershipwalk.com or by calling toll-free 1-800-267-2532.

Also available online: a WPW 30th anniversary video (YouTube) and “Many Faces” of Walk Ambassadors (individual profiles).
