Lace up those running shoes!

On Tuesday, April 29 at noon, join UVic President Jamie Cassels for his next President’s Run, celebrating the end of the academic year and the return of warm weather.

This is the eighth run since Sept. 6 when Cassels first invited students, staff and faculty to join him on the four-to-six kilometre run/walk around campus. Joining the group on Tuesday will be Kyle Irvine, UVic President’s Cup award winner from the men’s middle distance track team. (The President's Cup is given annually to the outstanding student-athlete in fourth or fifth year who best combines scholastic achievement and athletic ability.)

But you don’t have to be a track star to participate. Folks of all fitness levels participate in the mid-day break.

"These runs have been a lot of fun, and I’ve really enjoyed meeting so many of the UVic community," Cassels said. "It's a great way to clear away the mental clutter of classes, exams and busy work schedules; not to mention getting some exercise and enjoying our beautiful campus!"

Runners and walkers are asked to meet a few minutes before noon, at the Student Affairs Plaza, between the UVic Bookstore and McKinnon gym. Rob MacKay and Samantha Doney from Athletics and Recreation will be providing tips and support along the route, along with some cool-down stretches at the end.

So take a break from the books or the meetings and lace up those running shoes for the final President’s Run of the 2013/14 year!

Dates of future runs will be posted on UVic's event calendar: events.uvic.ca.
