UVic #2 in 2015 Maclean's Rankings

Once again, the University of Victoria has been ranked among the top Canadian comprehensive universities by Maclean's magazine. This is the eighth consecutive year that UVic has been ranked either first or second in this category. In a strong showing across the board, UVic racked up top-three finishes in eight of the 12 key performance indicators used by Maclean's for its 2015 rankings.

In recent years, UVic and Simon Fraser University, which finished first in the comprehensive category this year, have moved back and forth between the top two positions among Canada's 15 comprehensive universities, a category that denotes a significant amount of research activity and a wide range of programs at the undergraduate and graduate level, including professional degrees.

UVic received top scores for student awards (the number of students per 1,000 who have won academic awards over the past five years) and medical/science grants (success of full-time faculty members in obtaining research grants from federal funding agencies NSERC and CIHR). UVic placed second for total research dollars (total income from sponsored research divided by the number of full-time faculty) and library acquisitions (percentage of the library budget spent on updating the collection, including electronic resources).

McGill topped the Medical Doctoral category while UBC finished third. Among the primarily undergraduate universities Mt. Allison was first and UNBC second. More information is available at Maclean's Education Rankings.
