Making a difference: UVic and the United Way

Thank you, UVic community! As of the end of December, the fundraising tally for the 2012 UVic United Way campaign stood at $250,647, and the campaign had welcomed 74 new donors.

“Thank you to everyone who donated for your contributions and generosity,” says UVic campaign chair Mary Ellen Purkis. “UVic is a proud supporter of the United Way of Greater Victoria and we continue to rely on tremendous support from the campus community—both donors and volunteers—to achieve our ambitious goals,” she says.

“Special thanks to our leadership donors, who each contribute more than $500 annually and help us to make such a difference to the local agencies and programs that are supported by the United Way.”

On-campus events raised a total of $18,150 from September to December 2012. Events included the Engineering Students’ Society VW Bug Push, UVic Libraries Booksale, Hearts and Hands Craft Fair, Plasma Car Races, Chemistry Show and Commerce Students Society fashion show.

Donations help nearly 128,000 Victoria residents who benefit from United Way-supported programs and services delivered through 67 agencies. The United Way of Greater Victoria celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2012.
