The Insight Award recognizes outstanding accomplishment and significant contribution to knowledge and understanding of people, societies and the world. Dr. Brown's involvement in the Fathering Within Child Welfare research program exemplifies this achievement, with the research initiative continuing to illuminate the experiences of fathers of children who are or have been in care.

Dr. Brown, a professor of Social Work in UVic's Faculty of Human and Social Development and the director of UVic's new Institute for Studies and Innovation in Community University Engagement, has been involved in community-engaged research for decades. She explains that she and the team not only explore how ignoring fathers can impact children, but "what good practice with fathers entails."

Award recipients will be announced at the World Social Science Forum in Montr&e#180;al on Oct. 15, 2013.
